We Offer Advanced Water Testing

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Do you have questions about the quality of the water inside your hot tub? Have you noticed a change to how the water feels, but you aren’t sure why? Would you like to stop guessing on how to maintain the best quality hot tub water?

We’re here to help with Advanced Water Testing at all 5 of our locations, using BioGuard ALEX Pro testing units. And the best part is, it’s a free service!

At The Spa and Sauna Company’s family of stores in Nevada and California, we are happy to be your hot tub experts, long beyond your hot tub purchase. We are also here to help you with hot tub water care and maintenance.

Advanced Water Testing is always free from The Spa and Sauna Company/Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz and San Jose.

What is Advanced Water Testing?

We use BioGuard/SpaGuard’s ALEX Pro system. BioGuard is the pioneer of computerized water testing, with nearly instant results. In fact, the name ALEX stands for Analysis Experts, according to BioGuard/SpaGuard.

ALEX tests more water quality factors than standard water testing strips and can analyze how different results are related, giving you the information you need to best care for your hot tub.

How do I get my hot tub water tested?

All you need to do is bring a sample of your water, in a clean container or the provided sample bottle, into any of our showrooms. We encourage you to bring it to us as soon as you can, after taking the sample from your spa. And the water should still be between 80 and 104 degrees, just like it would be in your hot tub.

No appointment is needed.

One of our hot tub water care experts will take a small amount of your sample and put it into a disc, where our ALEX Pro system, can analyze your water.

In about a minute, the device will analyze and interpret the condition of your water and provide a comprehensive report, with suggestions on how to improve your hot tub water.

The hot tub expert who analyzed your water will discuss with you, in detail, what the reading means. And which of the suggestions will provide the most relief to your particular water issue. They will also direct you to any recommended products.

This system will store the results of the reading in our database. This will allow you, and us, to monitor any changes in your water quality over time, as you continue to use your hot tub, and bring future samples in for readings. This is a great resource for long time hot tubbers.

How often should I test my hot tub water?

We recommend you use test strips weekly at home to get a quick overview of your water quality, and make any adjustments, if needed.

You are welcome to bring your water in, at any time, for a comprehensive water testing analysis from us, either for a check-in or if you are experiencing a water issue.

SpaGuard recommends you bring your hot tub water in monthly, during the months you use your hot tub most frequently.

We also recommend you bring your water in for testing, if you have not used your hot tub for a long period of time, and are ready to begin using it again.

We look forward to seeing you in any of our showrooms to test your water and make sure you are having the most enjoyable hot tub ownership experience possible.

Do I Need a New Hot Tub Cover?

Wednesday, September 25th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Is your hot tub cover over a few years old? Is it starting to look a bit worn from the weather and sun exposure? It might be time for a new hot tub cover!

And, we have developed a few indicators you can look for to see if your hot tub cover does need replacing.

Hot Tub Cover Condition

Hot Tub Covers degrade over time, and that’s normal. Hot Tub Covers are designed to last for about 3 to 5 years.

If you add a Cover Cover, which is available for purchase here, you can add years of life to your cover. You can also regularly treat your hot tub cover with 303 Protectant, to protect it from the sun’s UV rays. 303 Protectant also keeps dirt off of your cover and keeps it looking fresh. 303 Protectant can be purchased at any of our showrooms.

We sell replacement hot tub covers at all of our locations in Reno, Sparks, San Jose and Santa Cruz. If you are looking for a replacement cover, click here and select where your cover will be delivered to, fill out the form and one of our team members will be in touch to help you get a replacement hot tub cover.

Vinyl

Check your vinyl for signs of: Dryness, Brittleness, Dirt, Tears, Cracks.

Any and all of these symptoms might mean that it is time for a new cover. Changes in these conditions will affect the look, safety and heat retention abilities of your cover.

Hinges and Hinge Gaskets (or Shoes)

Heat can escape from a torn hinge, which might result in heat loss from your hot tub. A new cover keeps your hot tub hot and ready to use at any time.

If your hinge gasket, or shoes, are torn, damaged or missing, heat will leave your hot tub rapidly. Be sure to get that repaired or replaced, especially if you want to get into a nice, hot, hot tub during the long Reno/Tahoe winter months.

Straps and Locks

If your hot tub cover straps and locks are torn, broken, rusted or even missing, that is something you should take care of right away. Not only is it unsightly, but it can be a safety concern, especially around children and pets.

Foam Cores

This is the most important part of your hot tub cover. Over time the foam core can sag, which will create a gap in your heat seal, leaving your hot tub less hot).

Here are a few things to look out for related to your foam core, and indicating that you need a new hot tub cover:

You see puddles on top of your hot tub cover.

You notice that your hot tub cover has become much heavier over time.

There might even be an odor, if your cover has absorbed water.

How to Keep Your Hot Tub Cover (and your Hot Tub) Healthy

Treat your hot tub cover to a regular dose of 303 Cover Protectant. This will keep the Vinyl healthy. You can do this about once a month, when you change your filter. Caring for your hot tub cover properly can extend its lifespan.

Be sure to get a new hot tub cover every 3 to 5 years, or if your hot tub cover has been damaged. Caring for all of the parts of your hot tub, including the hot tub cover, will create a more enjoyable hot tub experience.
